Hi, I'm hoping to kick start this forum a little bit. we're trying to learn about transitioning to iep at age 3. some people say regional center drops out of the picture completely and the school takes over everything. can anyone share any info on what they've learned? -john maginnis father of claire 18mos.

Hi John,
My boys are turning 3 in September so we're going thru this transition now. Our kids will stay in the Regional Center system but they will get a new case manager once they turn 3. Yes, the school district really takes over a lot. You can request an "educational consultant" from Regional Center to help with the process and to identify your child's rights. For example, I believe that our school district indicated that they would only handle the education aspect, however, I later learned that I can request the school district do an OT and PT assessment, event though these are considered more medical than educational.
We are in the Poway school district. So far, they have set up assessments for my boys for speech, developmental and psychological.
Let me know if you have any other questions, I will try to answer them...
